OUR HISTORY

In the Winter of 2013, the Superintendent of the West Sacramento Department of Parks and Recreation contacted the leadership of SacGeeks.com, asking for assistance in planning a "May the Fourth Be With You"-themed celebration at their new West Sacramento Community Center.

SacGeeks.com (a not-for-profit community resource, and event planning and promotions organization) reached out to the owner of Sacramento-based collectibles store Toy Fusion, as well as to the local members of the 501st Legion Central California Garrison and other local cosplay clubs, entertainers and fan organizations.  Together, they organized an evening community event that included cosplay, vendors and live entertainment; it was held Saturday May 4th, 2013, for approximately 700 guests, and managed to raise & donate almost two thousand dollars for Make-A-Wish ® Northeastern California and Northern Nevada

In May 2014, we all got back together on Sunday May 4th, for the second May the Fourth Be With You event, this time it was a full day event, drew 1700 guests, and donated $5000 for Make-A-Wish ® Northeastern California and Northern Nevada!

Later that month, we realized that May the Fourth would no longer fall on a weekend for a few years, and we decided to expand the planned 2015 event to include even more partners and space scifi fandoms, for even more fun.  So in early June, we held a contest on our Facebook Group to rename the event, and, on June 10, 2014,  the submitted name, "Intergalactic Expo" was selected and announced as the winner!

And so SacGeeks.com had our 3rd annual scifi event with West Sacramento Parks and Recreation, which was also our first annual Intergalactic Expo, on Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3, 2015 !

In 2015 and 2016, our convention was even bigger and better, celebrating out-of-this-world fan favorites Star Wars, Star Trek, Firefly, Farscape, and Doctor Who!  These are some of the all-time favorite sci-fi shows of locals, and as last time, our focus was on local fandoms and fan communities!

We had some lovely and generous support by many awesome community fandom groups, including but not limited to the 501st Legion Central California Garrison, Saber Guild: Golden Gate Temple, Sacramento Steampunk Society, the USS Independence, and more!  (See the gray oval on the right for a longer list.)

And again, the 2015 and 2016 event was in part to benefit Make-A-Wish ® Northeastern California and Northern Nevada, and we succeeded in our the goal of raising and donating $5000, the average amount needed to grant one child’s wish!  (For additional information on Make-A-Wish, go to www.necannv.wish.org.) We also donated to the El Camino High School Pep Band and West Sacramento's Moo-La fund for children's programs.

Happily, due to the success of these past years' events, and thanks to supporters like you, we had another expo successful mission on May 21, 2017, again benefiting Make-A-Wish ® Northeastern California and Northern Nevada!

2018 will be a year of exciting changes, with new leadership and some minor direction changes. We wave a sad and fond farewell to our partnership with Sacgeeks.com as its leader steps down as event organizer, taking time off to give new management a chance to shine, completing a transition plan started in 2017.  Andrew Leung of Toy Fusion excitedly is stepping up to take the reins and steer the ship in its new course.  Details of the 2018 Intergalactic Expo in West Sacramento to be announced soon!
